WE ARE IN SAN SEBASTIÁN

WE ARE IN SAN SEBASTIÁN

San Sebastian is a model of innovation and renowned for having a wide cultural scene and an excellent quality of life.

San Sebastián is a great medium-sized city that offers the ideal environment to research, work and enjoy life. Its extensive network of research centres makes of San Sebastián a leading exponent of collaborative science* globally, and one of the world's two hundred major scientific cities.

Location

Located in northwestern Europe, next to the French border, San Sebastián is well-known for its knowledge and science sectors.

Leading member of the Basque Bayonne-San Sebastián Eurocity, the city enjoys an interesting cultural scene and hosts major international events all year round.

In economic terms, the city stands out not only for its innovation but also for its commerce and tourism.

Donostia-San Sebastián is an exceptional place to live for many reasons:

  • Culture.
Along with Venice or Cannes, the city hosts in September one of the A level film festivals in the world. The Jazz festival we celebrate every summer is one of the oldest in Europe.

  • Roots.
There are two official languages, Basque and Spanish - we call the city "Donostia" in Basque, and "San Sebastián" in Spanish. We call the local people "donostiarras".

  • Leisure.
We have three beaches: Ondarreta, La Concha and Zurriola, which is the best for surfing. We also have 237.37 hectares of parkland, providing an average of 21 m2 of green space per inhabitant.

  • Gastronomy.
The restaurants in the city and the surrounding area have a total of 16 Michelin stars, making Basque cuisine one of the most outstanding in the world.

  • Talent.
With 4 Universities (UPV-EHU University of the Basque Country, Deusto, Universidad de Navarra and Basque Culinary Center), engineering accounts for 30% of the courses offered, and we have 16 vocational education and training centres.

  • Innovation.
The city has a solid focus on knowledge and innovation, but does not forsake the importance of collaboration by an ample ecosystem centred on talent and the socialisation of knowledge.
